. 53 Answers SOURCE: It is not detecting the HDD because the windows install does not have the necessary drivers. On the windwos install you must press F6 or F2 I don't remember which one but it prompts you for them to load external drivers fro SCSI or other type of drives, you must download the right drivers for the type of HDD the server has probably fromt eh IBM support website, put them in a floppy and load them from the floppy into the windows install so it recognizes the drives.

I just bought a used IBM server few days ago, and i am trying to install windows XP pro on it. But i am new to the SCSI hard drives, and the way they work.

This server comes with SCSI ultra 320, RAID level 1, if i am right. I played with the BIOS for a while, and found many differences, i don't see any scsi drives on the bios, and on the boot sequence. I found i could press CTRL+ C and a menu ( during the Post) will come up, ' LSI logic MPT SCSI set up Utility' LSI logic Host Bust Adapters I am assuming this is where you set which drive should be master or slave?

Because it says Boot order, mirror status etc. I was able to get the computer to boot up but it comes with Uniware 7.1.3 ( completely strange for me) and i get the usual log in screen, sort of like DOS. Anyways, if i try to install windows xp, it will not detect the SCSI drives, if i press the KEY F8 or F6 not sure. While windows is loading the drivers to begin the installation. It asks me to insert a disket drive A: with the drivers for the scsi disks.

I have the CD from IBM but is a whole cd and it doesn't fit on 1.44 MBS? What can i do, is windows XP compatible with SCSI RAID 1. ( Mirroring) or not. Any help would be highly apreciated.

I am even on the right track here? I am so used to IDE hard drives, i haven't even catched up with SATA. Is windows XP compatible with SCSI RAID 1 The answer is most defiantly YES but you need the correct Drivers for the SCSI Adaptor. These should be on the CD which you can copy to the Root of a Floppy. That means just copy the necessary File to a Floppy without any folders.

As for using the CTRL C that brings up the SCSI Utility and shows you what is installed on the SCSI Controller which should be numbered from 1 to whatever can go to 14 or there abouts depending on the SCSI Controller used and you can not set the Boot Order here. You can not even setup the RAID configuration here but you really need the Users Manual for full instructions on how to use this unit. To install XP you need to push the F6 Key at the first Blue Screen as soon as it appears to tell the unit that you need to install extra Drivers that are not included on the Installation CD. Then after you install the SCSI Driver/s you can chose to use the RAID Array if you want to or stick with just using the different SCSI HDD's that you have available. If you want to use a RAID you need identical sized drives and you will only see 1 HDD for every 2 that you add to the Array. While this may seem a loss of Storage Space it actually gives you better Redundancy/Performance depending on what you configure at the very least you should have available RAID 0 & 1 to use which will either improve performance or redundancy depending on what you chose to use. After you have got XP installed you will need to install all of the required drivers for XP and then you can set about using the unit.

You will also probably need to delete all the existing data off the different Drives and format them to NTFS Partitions as well. I messed up our emachine 206. Soi also tried to reinstall the OS using the original support CDs included.

It does, however installs windows server 2000. I needed to install XP, as it is the os required by the software i'll be needing. After a bit of google-ing, i found out that the scsi disc, as it has been said here, needs a separate driver that will be loaded at the start of XP's installation. People here said that it is supposed to be somewhere in the support cd, but to further mess things up, the driver isn't there!

The pdfs and readme files said that the drivers are stored in diskette image files, but the scsi driver for windows xp is not included! This is the most difficult part for me - searching for the driver on the internet. Ihave already spent hours searching but to no avail. It will be most helpful if anyone can point where to download the driver, or better yet upload the driver.
