— Preceding comment added by (. ) 18:10, 30 December 2018 (UTC) Problems with Android app I have tried three times in recent days to upload a photo I took, using the Commons Android app. All three attempts have failed. I have encountered similar problems in the past, and have sometimes had to uninstall and reinstall the app in order to upload. I would donate more photos if the app worked smoothly. Can you offer any advice? 19:27, 1 January 2019 (UTC) @: I had similar problems along with crashes when using the regular version, until last month. The Beta test version 2.9.0, which has been available for about a month, has behaved much more smoothly.

As it happens, I normally also carry a real camera, hence make sparing use of the app, mainly for instant gratification and more precise locations. I also use the Wikishootme site to find what's missing in whatever place I'm walking. 19:53, 1 January 2019 (UTC) Thanks, @. I will install the newer version. 20:10, 1 January 2019 (UTC) If you're still facing issues, please do submit issue reports at 15:26, 9 January 2019 (UTC) I received permission from the author I uploaded for article in the English Wikipedia. I saw a picture of her on the author's. I send her an email asking permission to use her photo using this I found.

She then replied saying: 'Yes sure, my photo may be used for Maymay’s article. I then forwarded the email to the OTRS team, and I'm currently awaiting response.

Would that be sufficient? Thank you for your assistance. 03:36, 5 January 2019 (UTC) Permission to use in an article, even an article on a sister project such as the English Wikipedia, is not relevant for Commons. Given that the image is not public domain, we need a free license conformant with the requirements stated at. Also:. While I gather that there are occasional exceptions, the OTRS team usually wants email to come directly from the copyright holder of the image, not from a third party such as a Wikipedia editor. Normally, the copyright would remain with the photographer, unless that has been explicitly transferred in writing or implicitly under the terms of a contract such as an employment contract (or maybe you are already dealing with the correct person in these terms, hard to tell from what you wrote, maybe 'author' here means 'photographer').

05:16, 5 January 2019 (UTC) @: Can you please send the complete, unabridged, raw Internet headers for that email message in reply to and mention the filename? See and for details. — ツ please or 19:20, 6 January 2019 (UTC) @: Hello, I replied on, please let me know if that's what you're looking for. I've been editing en.wiki and pt.wiki for several years now, but I'm still a newbie here on WikiCommons. So I have a question that is maybe dump, but anyway.

The image below, was taken from a Flickr account. However, it was deleted from Flickr, so how to attest that it's free to use here on Wikimedia Project? It seems a Copyvio to me, but as I said, I`m a newbie here on WikiCommons. — Preceding comment added by (. ) 14:23, 9 January 2019 (UTC) Weird error uploading an image Anyone faced this 'An unknown error occurred in storage backend 'local-swift-codfw'.'

Error uploading images? This appeared to me at the end of the upload. 18:44, 9 January 2019 (UTC), it sounds like a bug in the upload handler (though I've not seen with images, only large media files).

If it persists (they're usually transient) you may want to file a ticket over on so Devs can look into it. 05:43, 10 January 2019 (UTC), thank you The files are online, the error show up, but didn't affect the upload. 11:38, 10 January 2019 (UTC) Good to hear, as the process at Phabricator is a bit technical and rather Byzantine, to say the least; it requires a certain level of masochism to see to fruition. (I'm surprised this dynamically-generated, rickety, bucket of bolts stays online like it does. An engineering marvel, or miracle, as it were.) - 19:33, 10 January 2019 (UTC) Name already exists Hello, There is already an article under the name of Tobias Young, dedicated to a painter.

Please only upload photos that you took yourself with your camera, or see what else is acceptable. See the guide to make sure the file is acceptable and learn how to upload it on Wikimedia Commons.' Why is this happening? This is a logo for a company page that I am creating in wikipedia, and I don't understand how to resolve this issue. — Preceding comment added by (. ) 10:46, 11 January 2019 (UTC) Don't upload logos as JPG oder PNG files but rather as SVGs.

Select one good logo and don't try to upload every possible variation. 11:14, 11 January 2019 (UTC) @: I tried different variations as one of them worked and the others didn't, and I was trying to see if there was a pattern. This worked out reasonably well up to now. Today I encountered the following issue:: I uploaded a file with a name that existed already on Commons (also uploaded by me at an earlier stage). On my hard drive both files were in different folders, so there was no clash, but here on Commons there are no folders, so the old file got overwritten. The Kipi uploader did not provide me any warning.

So the questions I have now are the following: How can I avoid such overwritings in the future? How can I most efficiently get the overwritten and the new picture into two different files?

The files currently concerned are: Neuss-0038.jpg Neuss-0036.jpg Neuss-0034.jpg Neuss-0032.jpg Neuss-0013.jpg Neuss-0010.jpg Neuss-0009.jpg Neuss-0004.jpg Neuss-0003.jpg Neuss-0002.jpg Neuss-0001.jpg Thanks in advance! - 13:51, 11 January 2019 (UTC) @: might know more about this. 14:00, 11 January 2019 (UTC) @: Re your second question, I suggest requesting splits at. — ツ please or 14:03, 11 January 2019 (UTC) How I can response for the message?

18:20, 15 January 2019 (UTC) Also, I doubt you want 'peoples' here. Most commonly, 'people' is the English plural of 'person'. There is a singular noun 'people' which is pluralized as 'peoples', but it would mean something like the French, or the Americans, or the Russians (each of which is 'a people', and collectively they are 'peoples'). 19:03, 15 January 2019 (UTC) Is it OK to upload a picture of the front cover of a Theatre Programme in an article about the director of the play in question please?
