What’s really happening is here is the slow end of iMovie – it started when Steve declared that no one needed DVDs and then proceeded to dumb down iMovie instead of making it better. As a result, what you get from iMovie is very poor quality videos for anything other than tiny screen gadgets. IMovie has become an embarrassing piece of crap all as part of the conspiracy to get people to buy one of the high dollar versions of Final Cut and you can’t make any better quality DVDs from the so called pro version of Apple’s video software than you can from the cheap crap they call iMovie 6, 7, 8, 9 or whatever. If you watched the keynote about iMovie 08 it makes it understandable. It is for short videos to use on the web, phone etc. It is not to make long movies.

IMovie 08 was a complete rewrite, it was not compatible with older versions. It also had some bugs. 09 was a vast improvement, however 08 pissed off everyone, including me, who had use previous versions.

09 has some great tools and there is a lot you can do with it. It does take some time to dig into it’s features. It does not work like FC, don’t expected it to. Use it for what it is intended, taking about 30 min. Of footage and quickly producing a 3 min. For that it’s great.

When I upload 5 min HD flick from iMovie ’09 to Youtube it takes 8h or so, if I open the file with Quicktime and export it from there it takes 20 min. I wish iMovie ’09 had more possibilities to tweak the presets. Now it works really well for my purposes where I pick parts from dozens of movies recorded the last 12 years (real-estate dev). Screen capture would be nice function too, I’d like to do videos based on this idea (very interesting song towards the end). Unable to submit a microsoft office word 2004 for mac free. Looks like it’s done by shooting the video from the computer screen.
